Situated just outside of Nelspruit, in the midst of nature and the bustling macadamia farming community, Rock View Lodge is in an idyllic location and on the grounds of the lodge you will find plenty of activities to keep you busy and entertained during your stay with us, and the outside attractions that are just as exciting.

Rock View Lodge is perfect for those who want to escape the city but don’t want to go completely rural. Although the lodge is out of town, it is still close enough to some of the best places to do a little shopping which is ideal for those wanting to stock up on a couple of things, before spending the rest of their holiday relaxing in the great outdoors.

There are just so many activities in and around the Nelspruit area that you can enjoy, and many of the best activities are just a stone’s throw away from Rock View Lodge. When you are planning your trip to Nelspruit, here’s what you should have on your agenda.

  1. Go to the Gardens

A lot of people are drawn to Nelspruit because it is such a different kind of city. Unlike the concrete jungle of Gauteng and its cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg, Nelspruit has held onto its rural look and feel, because although it has really grown in size in recent years, it still has that wilderness appeal. Perhaps it is because the city is so close to the Kruger, or perhaps it is because just a 10 minute drive outside of the city will take you into bush and farmland, but either way, you can feel close to nature when you visit here.

One way to make the most of that feel, and to really sink your toes into the earth by going to the Lowveld Botanical Garden. Here you can spend a day walking around, having a picnic, and just seeing all of the indigenous plants that thrive here.

  1. Go to the Mountains

Whether you head out of town to Barberton or whether you drive up to Kaapsehoop, there are so many amazing mountain views that you can see when you are visiting the area. Both villages are a short drive away and you can easily make a day of it when you are in either town.

  1. Go to the Markets

Yip, although you are in a wild and natural part of the world, you can still indulge yourself with a little shopping. There are some great shops in the city, and many of which can be found in a mall, but if you want to get a real taste of the local experience, head to one of the weekend markets. Our town is run on a local economy that is boosted by some truly talented entrepreneurs, and you’ll find an array of fantastic products and locally made treats when you spend a Friday night or Sunday morning walking around the market stalls.
