The weather in the Nelspruit area at this time of the year is simply glorious, and it is certainly creating those end of year holiday vibes. Spending a weekend away from the city, here in our gorgeous part of the world, or if you are planning a bit of a longer getaway, to renew your energy and just kick back and relax, it helps to know what to pack and what to expect from your bushveld break.
At Rock View Lodge, we might offer our guests some really rustic Nelspruit accommodation, but overall our retreat from the world is kitted out with everything you could need to make you feel at home. From those smaller conveniences such as a tea and coffee station to keep you refreshed, to a huge garden and property to explore, our guests are treated to the best experience, and leave our lodge energised and ready to take on the world.
As we are a bit of a bushveld escape, and since many of our guests enjoy a spot of camping on the property, we are going to share some tips about what to bring along for your holiday.
Whether you intend to spend most of your time at the lodge (do check out our fun list of things to do around here), or if you are using our lodge as your base, and then getting out there and exploring the beauty of the Lowveld, here’s a couple of things to bring along to make your stay more comfortable.

- Sunblock
Not that SPF 15 stuff, we’re talking SPF 50. The Lowveld heat might be unforgiving, but the direct sun on your skin is going to leave you with a burn that you will only realise you have a day later. SPF 50 is one of the highest amounts of protection you can get from your sun block, and to improve the effectiveness of the block you should make sure that you opt for a waterproof product.
- Light clothing and comfy shoes
We’ve mentioned the heat right? Well it comes with a good dose of humidity which will leave you feeling sweaty and uncomfortable if you were to not bring along light clothing. You’re on holiday, so now is a good time to let loose and instead of keeping up with appearances, now is the time to be as relaxed as possible, so wear something light and comfy.
- Bring a day bag
If you are not going to be staying at the lodge all day, having a day bag that you can grab in a hurry and take with you wherever you go, is a great way to save time. In your day bag you can pack all of your essentials such as a couple of snacks and water, something to protect your lips from the sun, and a hat. Should you be bringing along a camera, which is a must if you intend to perhaps include a Kruger Park safari as a part of your adventure, then your day bag can also include some of your gear as well as extra batteries.
